“Vulnerability is terrifying. The courage it takes to reveal your heart is one of the most daunting…and yet rewarding experiences in life. It will set you free.” – The Better Man Project

Getting Started: Reaching out for help and inquiring information is the first step to therapy. I recommend making an initial phone call to speak to the therapist and give you an opportunity to check fees, ask questions, and make sure that you feel that the therapist is a good fit for you. You have the right to ask questions about the therapist, their approach, and their experience.

Therapy Process: It is normal to reach a point in life where you are struggling and need somebody to help. The therapeutic process will look different for every person and relationship, but it is important to remember that the only way to positive growth and healing is by confronting the pain in a safe setting. As a therapist, I believe that my clients are the experts of their own lives and have strengths that will help them be successful. Most of the best growth in therapy happens outside of the therapy room as you practice what we talk about in session, so because of that it is not uncommon for my clients to have “homework” to help you reflect, make changes, and maintain progress.

Appointments:

  • Initial Session: Please arrive 15-20 minutes early for your initial session to complete necessary paperwork (if you did not fill it out online prior to the session). The paperwork is on a clipboard in the waiting room (labeled Caitlyn). There will not be someone to greet you, so please take the paperwork and have a seat. I will come get you at the time of the appointment.
  • Frequency of Sessions: Although the frequency of sessions will be dependent on individual client needs, in most cases, I advise starting with weekly sessions. I believe that weekly sessions are the best way to promote change and create movement towards completing goals in a timely manner. Once goals have been met, I recommend a one-month follow-up session and a three-month follow-up session to help maintain therapeutic change.
  • Length of Therapy: The length of therapy can vary greatly. An average duration for achieving therapeutic goals is 8-12 sessions. Depending on the nature of the presenting concerns, the duration might be less or more.
